Identitywa’s beginnings were humble in size but big in vision.
Identitywa began as a self-help group for parents over 40 years ago, and has grown into an organisation that now supports over 450 individuals and their families.
The organisation began as Catholic Care in 1977 when a group of parents saw a future in which their children received quality care and greater acceptance from their parish communities.
The determination of these founding members captured the imagination of the Perth Catholic Archdiocese which provided strong support to these pioneers. This support enabled the organisation to flourish, and became an official part of the Catholic Archdiocese in 1981.
Catholic Care became Identitywa in 2001. Over the following years we continued to expand our supports to include 36 shared homes, children and adult respite houses, an in-home support service and a range of community support.
Today, we continue to build on this strong foundation with our focus firmly on providing highly personalised support to people with all types of disability. Read more about our approach in Sharing The Journey, Identitywa’s Strategic Plan for 2013-2016.
