Healthy eating and cooking program fun and educational for Identitywa housemates
The group attended Foodbank WA’s interactive food literacy and nutrition education program, Healthy Food for all Abilities, which aims to provide hands-on cooking sessions which build valuable life skills.
It is held at Foodbank’s industrial kitchen located at Perth Airport. The Minister for Disability recently announced a significant grant for the hands-on program through the State Government’s ‘A Western Australia for Everyone: State Disability Strategy 2020-2030′ Innovation Fund.
When talking to the housemates about their experience, it seems learning new recipes was fun, but sitting down to share a meal they cooked was the highlight.
Chris, a keen cook, said: “We got to cook different meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, which were all delicious.”
“We did learn a lot about nutrition and enjoyed the cooking, but we all definitely loved the eating haha!”
Foodbank WA’s healthy eating and cooking programs are designed to empower people with disability and their support workers with skills to enable them to choose and prepare healthy food.
