Jodee wakes up everyday to a beautiful mural on her bedroom wall connecting her to family and her Aboriginal heritage
Two of Jodee’s most recent life goals, to trace her family and redecorate her bedroom, were successfully ‘ticked off’ recently with the assistance of her Identitywa House Senior, Holly, and Aboriginal artist, Sal.
Knowing how keen Jodee was to have the visual connection with her family in her room, Holly researched who could assist with the mural and found Sal’s Aboriginal Art.
After Holly explaining the idea to her, Sal agreed to be part of the project, meeting with Jodee over coffee a few times to come up with ideas for the mural such as the colours and what sort of tree and animals should be included. They also talked about dreamtime stories that Jodee remembered which resulted in including a rainbow serpent.
Jodee is overjoyed with the result and always wants to show everyone who comes to visit! And…there was an extra bonus when Sal was painting the family tree. It showed up that Jodee and Sal are distantly related!
“I had such a blast painting this bedroom mural that both Jodee and I designed for room. . Thank you for dinner all the cups of tea!
“Jodee gave me the biggest, tightest and bestest hug I’ve had to date when I had to say goodbye. Gosh, I’ll never forget that beautiful hug.
“I’m sure gonna miss you, Jodee!” Sal
