City of South Perth Sundowner provides chance for the people Identitywa supports to network with potential employers
Young ‘job seeker’s Identitywa supports attended the City of South Perth Disability Employment Business Sundowner held on Wednesday 14 June. The inaugural event brought together Disability Employment Service providers, employers, people with disability, parents and carers providing them with the chance to network and learn about employment and inclusion in the workplace.
“It was great to connect the people we support with employers, giving them the opportunity to gain employment or undertake work experience,” explains Identitywa Planner, Kristina Kotua.
This was the first time Identitywa has hosted a booth at the Sundowner and coordinators were very keen to involve the people Identitywa supports at the event. Five individuals assisted with tasks such as registering guests as they arrived, serving food as well as working on the Identitywa Information Booth.
“It was wonderful to see such a good turnout which also included representatives from the education sector, government departments and local businesses.
“Having the young people we support working and showing off their skills to perspective employers was a fantastic opportunity for them,” said Kristina.
Kristina is a member of the Inclusive Community Advisory Group which assists the City of South Perth in improving the City’s access to services and facilities for people with disability.
“Gaining employment when leaving school is so important. Identitywa is well placed to provide support to School Leavers, connecting them to the appropriate agencies and potential employers,” said Kristina.
