Identitywa marks National Carers Week 2016
“Come along inside….we’ll see if tea and buns can make the world a better place.” Kenneth Graham, The Wind in the Willows
Identitywa once again marked National Carers Week 2016 with what has become a tradition – hosting a High Tea for the carers of the people we support.
The aim of the event is to offer carers a chance to have a break from their daily routine for a few hours and enjoy the company of others who share similar responsibilities.
Carers Week is an annual event held in the third week of October raising awareness of the vital role carers have in the lives of people all over Australia.
Lotterywest and Carers Australia WA offer grants for care-related organisations to host their own event during this special week and Identitywa was successful in their application to host the High Tea.
In addition to carers, representatives from Lotterywest, Carers Australia WA joined Identitywa’s Board Chair, Graeme Mander, and CEO, Marina Re at the event.
Guests were welcomed by Mr Mander and encouraged to enjoy the chance to share their stories with each other, and of course, to try some of the wonderful selection of cup cakes, fresh scones, tea and gourmet sandwiches provided by the Sassy Cookie in Victoria Park.
“We believe this event provides us with an important opportunity to acknowledge and extend our hospitality to the people who selflessly provide support throughout the year,” said Graeme.
“It is always a great pleasure to see all the guests enjoying themselves.”
Thanks were also extended to Doug and Sue from the Sassy Cookie for providing such a lovely High Tea, and Terry White Chemists and Kambo’s, Canningvale, who generously provided gifts for the carers.
