The commitment to ensure staff are highly trained to provide individualised support is at the heart of the successful collaboration between disability support agency, Identitywa, and Centacare Employment and Training.

Identitywa and Centacare collaborated for the first time in early 2016 to offer Identitywa staff the opportunity to complete a Certificate lll in Individual Support.

“Having highly skilled staff is critical to the delivery of Identitywa’s services,” said Britta Meyer, Manager, Operational Services at Identitywa.

“We understand the importance of providing career pathways for our staff and we are delighted this initiative has been so popular and successful.”

For graduate, Joshua, the experience was very positive.  “Studying the Cert lll has helped me to build on my experience working with Identitywa.  It really was a great program and a great team to work with!”

All the training was completed at Centacare’s facility in Perth.  It consisted of 13 units – seven core units and six elective units and a rigorous assessment in the workplace.

Identitywa CEO, Marina Re said the qualification reflects the critical role workers have in a range of settings and the need for them to be committed to person-centered active support.

“Our goal is that our staff will develop a better understanding of their role in supporting each person to have the life they want to live. While we seek employees who share our values it is critical that they have access to training to enable them to do the best they can in achieving great outcomes for the people we support,” said Marina.

A special morning tea was held at Identitywa’s corporate base in Northbridge where staff were presented with their certificates.

“We are very pleased to see another group of dedicated staff graduate from this program.  We congratulate them and wish them all the best for their future,” said Marina.
