Identitywa supports Doris to get her new bike!
The financial support of the Federal Government’s introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Identitywa’s support for married couple William and Doris has been life-changing.
The chance to access funding has enabled them to not only connect with their local community but also to achieve some of their personal goals and dreams too.
Over the past 12 months, with the support of Identitywa Team Leader, Wendy, they have taken up some fun activities which include William attending the local ‘Men’s Shed’ and Doris learning about how to grow vegetables successfully.
A major goal for both, however, has been to buy Doris a new bike. Doris wanted to use the bike to improve her fitness and to be able to ride to her local shop in Bullsbrook where they live with their dog, Keisha.
William has been totally committed to making this a reality for her, working with Wendy to budget his finances so he could contribute to the purchase of the three-wheel bike which was partially funded by NDIS.
“I’m so happy I can now ride to the shops for my groceries and I love that people are stopping me in the street to talk to me about my bike and how cool it is!”
Wendy said she was delighted with the results of the collaborative effort.
“I am so proud of how supportive and proactive William has been to ensure Doris’ dream of owning a bike became a reality,” said Wendy. “There will be no stopping her now!”
