Faced with increasing medical costs due to challenging health issues for their six-year-old daughter, Beth’s, parents, Jane and Martin, looked to the online option of ‘gofundme’ to raise much-needed funds for what would be life-saving surgery at the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

Beth’s Identitywa support worker, Lauren, set up the campaign which proved to be an overwhelming success, raising over $15,000 so far.

Lauren explains: “The expenses for Beth’s care were really adding up so I helped Jane and Martin to start a gofundme campaign.

“It’s been really amazing to see the amount of support there has been,” said Lauren.

“In addition to Australia, we have had donations from unexpected places such as the USA, New Zealand, Indonesia, Mexico and Ireland.  Another real surprise came from a couple who own a gym in Port Kennedy, Trent and Jacinta Fitzgerald who approached me out of the blue,” said Lauren.

“Trent and another fighter, Pat Eneanya, suggested that they could donate the prize money of almost $6,000 from their WA cruiser weight title boxing fights to help Beth’s cause.  Although Beth’s mum had never been to this kind of event before, we went together and watched them both win.  We were so excited as their prize money took us to the fundraising goal we had hoped for!”

Beth’s parents are very grateful for Lauren’s help.  Jane’s comments from a recent post on Beth’s gofundme website:

“Thank you Lauren for all your amazing hard work. You are Beth’s favourite person in the whole world, as you already know!! Your coordination  of the fundraiser at the Dragon Fire Boxing event on Friday night was incredible. The generosity of boxers Fitzy Fitzgerald and Pat, Fitzy’s wife Jacinta, and the promoters, was so humbling. I felt incredible love for our daughter from strangers who were moved by her struggles.”

Beth’s health expenses are ongoing and it is Lauren’s hope that continued fundraising will help with the costs.
