I like to be able to do things for myself – I’m proud to be independent!

Being able to travel to his job by himself is really important to Simon who shares an Identitywa house with four other people.

Simon has been working for Activ for many years.  In 2017, Activ, an Australian Disability Enterprise, relocated from Palmyra to Bentley which is quite a distance from his home.

For the first few weeks, Simon caught a lift but was keen not to have to rely on someone else, so… using the house computer with the support of one of the staff, he researched the bus routes and bus numbers to get him to the new location.

Simon explains: “One of the support workers took me on the bus to work.  I loved it. I have to change buses two times each way so I get to catch four buses!

“I really enjoy getting to work and using my bus card. It’s fun. I like to be able to do things for myself.”

Identitywa is one of WA’s leading agencies supporting people with disability to live the life they choose.  With a strong commitment to Person Centred Active Support, staff work in partnership with individuals to explore, plan and design support options to suit their individual needs.
