Tamara’s Night To Shine
Gail and Phillip Lane are one of two families who nominated Family Support Worker, Tamara Lipscombe for a 2014 Disability Support Worker Award.
Tamara was nominated for the Community Support Award which recognises disability support workers who enable individuals to live and participate in the community as independently as possible.
Gail Lane said, “We always felt that Tamara had our son Jordan’s best interests at heart.”
“Jordan was reluctant to have a change of support worker, but Tamara sat down with him really calmly and very soon they were off down the road for a milkshake. Jordan’s never looked back.”
“Tamara has gone beyond our expectations. She’ll do things like sketch a birthday card for him and write a joke in it that’s meaningful to the pair of them.”
Tamara said of the awards night, “I really appreciated connecting with the people I work with – with the people who support me to support the families.”
The Howell family also nominated Tamara for supporting their son Cameron. They were snapped at the awards ceremony above with Tamara (centre). L-R are Conrad, Greg and Kylie Howell.
